ECO-FRIENDLY GADGETS
With the world generating twenty to fifty million metric tons of electronic waste each year it is high time that we think about the pollution and wasted energy. Its not only a big messy mountain of discarded computers, monitors, and printers, it is also the harmful chemicals these electronics give off that add on.
With the earth’s average temperature rising to 3.2 to 7.2F, our planets bio-diversity would face the greatest extinction. Increase in conventional fossil fuel use and a habitable planet cannot go together. So a future energy path ought to be devised for our basic energy requirements.
The epitome of energy conservation constitutes in an environmental show-home. It contains hundreds of environmentally-friendly features including a solar thermal system which provide 50% of the energy needed for water heating. There is a photovoltaic system and solar panels on the roof. In the bathroom there is a compost toilet where moisture and any smells are sucked away by a fan and the rest is kept in a container where it turns to dust. There are taps which immediately switch off when your hands are not under them so no wastage of water.
Well, being green and eco-friendly doesn’t have to be dull. The potential for solar power is spectacular. In about half an hour, enough sunlight reaches the Earth's surface to meet the world's energy demand for a year. A few for you to look into:
- • SOLAR PANEL: Sunlight is maybe the most renewable of all resources, and that makes solar-powered products incredibly eco-friendly. SolarRoll is a flexible solar panel that can be used to charge cell phone, digital camera, or even a car battery. It is made of a Tefzel fluoropolymer for sturdiness and is waterproof.
- • ROBOTIC LAND MOWER: This robotic lawnmower gives you free time to spend with your family, also it's better for the environment, since it doesn't use gas, oil, or produce any harmful emissions. When the RoboMower is powered on, its built-in sensors can also detect trees, rocks, and other obstacles in its way.
With just a few small adjustments to our lifestyle we can all help save water, energy and unnecessary waste. Like:
- • SAVE-A-FLUSH SACHET: These sachets are water saving devices which are put into the toilet cistern. The water in the cistern inflates the device and displaces 1 litre of water with each and every flush - therefore saving a litre every time you flush!
- • THE MECON WATER SAVER: 1/3 of all water used in the home is flushed down the toilet! With the average household using 270 litres of water each day and with over 85% of all flushes wastes nearly 2/3 of water in the cistern. With this ingenious and easy-to-fit flush mechanism, water can be saved significantly and thereby water bills are reduced, whilst protecting the planet.
- • FULL SPECTRUM BIO-BULB: This astounding bulb is a full spectrum daylight bulb that uses 75% less energy than a standard light bulb. The BioBulb issue over three times more lumens (a lumen is a way of measuring natural light) than a standard bulb and is therefore the closest to natural daylight. Further, it can improve your mood, general wellbeing and health; lessen fatigue, irritability, nervousness and hyperactivity. It even has a positive effect on indoor plants. The BioBulb radiates less heat than a standard bulb and lasts around 7 years.
Any day each one of you can become environmentalists. If everyone contributes by conserving energy, reducing pollution, recycling and reusing, we can all help save the planet.
